the quivering pony visits japan

hear ye hear ye!
The quivering pony (aka mick higgins) has just completed a whirlwind tour of japan. We tried to fit as many 'japanese' things as possible in a week and this is what we came up with

1) karaoke
2) games center
3) ate sushi
4) saw temples
5) went to shinjuku
6) went to an onsen (he has a smallsy)

im sure theres others but i cant for the life of me remember. We also went to the new york bar at the park hyatt in shinjuku where lost in translation was filmed. It is exactly like in the film although there sadly was no scarlett johnasson (and yes i did sniff the pillows in the hotel). Problem was, higs and i were just in normal street clothes and we felt very very povo hanging out with all the fancy suits and elegant dresses. And at 10 bucks a beer we couldnt very well stay long. But it was a cool place, somewhere i'd like to go back to one day if I am ever classy and rich enough to do so.

Anyways, all these photos are from a little two-day trip we went on to a traditional japanese town. Very nice to get away from tokyo and see some trees (yes they do exist in japan!)

famous bridge in nikko. apparently two serpants carried this dude across the river here in 759 or something. i didnt know serpants existed


here's an interesting story. the dudes who built this gate 400 odd years ago were worried the gods would get angry because of its outstanding quality and intricacy. so, they intentionally installed a supporting pilon upside-down to express humility. took us ages to spot it but eagle eye higs pointed out that the design is upside-down
