things that have gone wrong

Hello there boys and girls! One week of my Japanese adventure has passed and since I added a counter to this blog an astonishing 36 people have visited. Now although this is an impressive number (somewhat boosted by the amounts of times I have checked the total) I expect many more hits. Why not tell your boss? Forward the site to the mish? Let sammy kel know? If we get to a thousand I will have a prize for the thousandth hit*!!!!!

But seriously, its been a reasonably eventful week, I have started work, bought a little pushbike and done a number of things that werent supposed to happen. So lets recap on some of my little cultural boo-boo's in the first week.

1. Ate a fishhead by accident. It was a little sample thingy at a food place and I thought 'oh, this looks nice' and treated myself, only to get a strange taste in my mouth and a fish eye staring at me when I looked at the other samples. Delicious.
2. Bought some chewing gum called 'blackblack' which burnt my mouth. Why? Because it has nicotine and caffeine in it I found out later.
3. Ate raw horse mackerel for dinner last night.
4. Bought what I thought was chewing gum but was actually the strongest cough lolly in the world.
5. Wasted thousands of yen trying to beat those silly claw games in an arcade. I watched a guy put thousands in one machine to win a GI Joe and eventually got it. We cheered.
6. Unknowingly survived my first earthquake. Apparently there was a little baby one on Monday morning. These happen all the time I'm told. Not much more than a little grumble, but quite scary nonetheless.
7. Raped someone (apparently this is illegal in Japan)

So there you go. When I thought of this idea i think there were other funny things that have gone wrong but I have since forgotten about. Eating here is probably the biggest challenge. Its really trial and error at the moment with a very high level of error.

Its my birthday on sunday so please send me presents. Address them for tokyo and I'm sure they'll arrive.

Peace and love,
your new favourite asian (sorry xummy)

maybe i was a bit calm in that previous post but the more i think about it the more ridiculous that penalty was. grosso ran straight over neill, fully changed his run to trip over him. ref made two stupid decisions, firstly to send materazzi off (a bad challenge but hardly a red) and then to steal the game away from aus. its such a shit way to go out of the world cup. we proved we can match it with anyone and sadly a bullshit decision has knocked us out.

shit

devasting

devastation. Nearly feel as bad as iran but for different reasons. We played outstandingly well but maybe lacked that cutting edge to win it. Load of shit penalty, ironic that it was lucas neill that conceded it as he has been our best player and one of the stars of the world cup. Italy probably deserved some luck following unlucky eliminations from past tournys but this is heartbreaking. I hope we can continue in the same vain in the future which will be hard post-hiddink but hopefully his ideologies and strategies live long.

what a shit way to lose
im completely devastated

meathead post

what an outstanding half of football by the aussies. Controlled posession as well as anyone in the world. Only problem is the azzuri do seem slightly more likely to score mainly due to the phenomenal Pirlo. He is so underrated, he is never mentioned amongst the worlds best but he is. As for oz, Wilkshire, Grella and particularly Moore have been excellent. I smell extra time and from there its anyones. Remember Italy have gone out of the last 4 world cups either on penalties or in extra time.

COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p-s, england suck and lampard is appaling. eng v ecu was one of the worst games i have ever seen at such a high level. Lampard again failed to prove himself. He never hits a shot cleanly, its always scuffed and shit. What a cunt of a player. Ericksson is a rubbish manager with no creativity, he is far too rigid in his team selection although he did pick carrick who had an ordinary game. Rooney and Beckham and sometimes Gerrard are the only players for England who can win a game, the rest of them look more likely to lose it. Fuck i hate england. Fuck them.

Anyways,
we can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how many people love me?

well ladies and gentlemen, we can now quantify that due to the counter that is placed down the bottom of my blog. I expect it to reach into the millions

just seeing if this works which it obviously does and thus doesnt need to be posted but if it happens to become posted a brief explanation of what is happening is necessary which is the boys going nuts in the lowenbrau after australia beat japan i mean what a match who would have thought one nil down and yes we did it and lo and behold we are playing italy tomorrow what a game that will be i reckon we can beat anyone and wont it be exciting if we win cause then we would play either switzerland or ukraine in the quarters who arent much chop no matter which way you look at it things in japan are fine obviously im not overwhelmed with things to do as i am writing this which although is entertaining to read doesnt really provide any insight into anything other than that i am an idiot which im sure most of you already knew but wouldnt say to my face for fear of reprisal from flemmo a quick note about the picture xummy is not really australian as you can see from his forced expression of celebration i think he would have preferred we lost well xummy i hope england lose tonight have fun peace and love to you all except xummy and probably adrian

that`s gold reaches new heights

this evening i have been blessed with the phenomonal news that my thats gold poem made it to the footy show. Many thanks to Stack and Jack`s for geeing it up and to Chief and the boys for inventing such a significant cultural symbol. Can someone please explain how it was read out etc: i cant imagine Fatty coming up with a clever segue.

Well in other news, I am in the middle of Tokyo waiting until the Oz game tonight. I managed to find a little British bar which will play both games. Its cool cause both games are on at once, I watched Czech v Italy and Ghana v US and was pleased too see the little Africans get thru. Would have been better if Italy didnt win cause now we have to play them if we get thru. The best way to sum up my time here so far is confusing. Im very lost and confused cause there isnt many tourists and i dont speak a word of Japanese. The people are definately not as friendly as I hoped but then again I dont really have the confidence to approach random Japanese people and try to conversate. I found some cool places tonight, a jazz bar which really is a jazz bar with mood lighting and hundreds of bottles of spirits and (obviously) jazz. The owner must have had nearly 1000 CDs, they were stacked everywhere. When i told him i was australian he pulled out some Aussie saxophonist and i pretended that I knew who he was. The bartenders were very friendly although i think i was being used purely for English practice, but thats fine. They asked me what `gday mate` and `no worries` meant and in hindsight I should have showed them the open palm and clenched fist that has caputured the imagination of millions worldwide. The other weird thing that happened was when I was walking home yesterday arvo. I walked past a construction site and a guy was holding a bag up. As i walked past, everyone around starting jumping back and ooing and aahing and i looked around and he was holding a giant snake! Slightly insane and scary.

Someone is asleep next to me in the internet cafe. Amusing.

Im living in a two bedroom apartment with a yank called Greg. He`s a little Greg like without (i presume) an irrational hatred of TMs. He`s a cool guy too, unlike the real Greg.

Thanks for the emails, theyre always fun to get, as are the intelligent comments about my blog.

Time to go, gotta kill two hours until the game

COME ON THOSE AUSSIEROOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oooooooooooooooooooo

Hello boys and girls,
I apologise for the previous two ludicrous posts, I am actually going to try and make this blog readable and not full of stupid comments about 'that's gold' and armidale bligfligs. Am currently in Singapore watching Germany v Ecuador during my stopover. I must say that I have had a very emotional week, from leaving the parents and the boys last week in the dale, to leaving my crazy sydney mates and the missus this week I felt a little overwhelmed with anxiety and sadness to leave so many top people. I will miss you all very much. However, good riddence in some cases, notably a young West Indian chap who shall remain nameless but titled or not boils an unbearable anger inside of me and every second I spent away from him extends my lifespan by several minutes. Anyways, I am actually excited now that the apprehensiveness and sadness has subsided. I've got four days before I start training so I am going to do a little sniffer dog and explore around. I'll probably goto Tokyo and see what all the fuss is about and may or may not visit the Lost in Translation hotel and sniff the pillow cases where Scarlett shot her scenes. I must also say Australia was unlucky not to get something out of the game against Brazil, i reckon it was probably the best we've ever played, especially in the first half. At times during the game I couldnt believe I was watching Australia play such was our control and passing. I can NOOOOOO wait for the Croatia game and I reckon if we qualify we have a mega chance against whomever from Group E. Imagine Aus v Ghana? Jism.

Time to go gang, I'll update this shortly

Peace and love from the Higgins family

twas the night before........

hello all,
just a quick update of my wild and crazy adventures. I'm due to leave tomorrow arvo and am just a little apprehensive about going. But when I feel worried, I think of a little song that cheers me up.

'when youre feeling a little bit down,
there's a sure way to turn that frown upside down.
Just clench your fist and open your palm
It sure as hell wont do you no harm
When your fist and palm collide
And at the top of your voice 'THATS GOLD! you cried'
You'll no longer feel any grief
And you'll owe it all to the legendary Chief.

just a little song to keep the tears away when I leave your pitiful lives.

check back soon for the crazy antics of the flight (probably join the mile high club. Next!) and my formative days in Japan

and as a great man once said 'whadddya doing ya dirty maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

A brief introduction to Timmy

Good morning children,
Welcome to my wonderfully insightful travel blog. Here you will be able to follow my zany adventures in the land of the rising sun and sushi. I'll give a quick example of what you can expect over the coming year.

"woke up hangover as anything again. Shouldnt have spent all night skulling pints of vodka. Told the 7 japanese girls to get out of bed because I've got to play rugby again. Played rugby still pissed and scored 45 points and knocked 3 dudes out cause they looked at me the wrong way. After the game the team carried me off the field on my shoulders and made my skull a keg of beer. I did and wasnt even drunk. some naked girls came and started undressing me and I went home with Scarlett Johannson. Next."

so it should be an informative year.

anyways, i'll update this before I go and then systematically ever 3 minutes when I arrive in Japan.

peace out
